Philip is Professor of Enzymology in the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, where he has been a Principal Investigator since 1971. He was a Royal Society Research Professor from 1984-2009, Director of the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit from 1990-2012 and Director of the Scottish Institute for Cell Signalling from 2008-2013. He is an elected a Fellow of the Royal Societies of London and Edinburgh, a Foreign Member of the USA National Academy of Sciences and a Corresponding Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth 2nd in 1998 for “Services to Biochemistry”.
