Prof Stephen Tait

University of Glasgow

Professor Stephen Tait is a Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute and Professor of Mitochondrial Cancer Biology, Deputy Head of School of Cancer Sciences at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that control cell death, particularly the role of mitochondria, and how these processes are altered in cancer. His team's major contributions to the field, including discoveries about how sub-lethal mitochondrial stress can promote cancer, how mitochondrial signalling can activate immune responses, and how cell death mechanisms intersect with inflammation and senescence. Professor Tait received his DPhil from the University of Sussex and completed postdoctoral training at the Netherlands Cancer Institute and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His lab is supported by Cancer Research UK, BBSRC, SNSF, Tenovus Scotland and Prostate Cancer UK.
